AnimeJapan 2026: Massive Announcements and Big Surprises Begin at Tokyo Big Sight

The heart of the anime world is beating in Tokyo this weekend! AnimeJapan 2026 has made a magnificent return to the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center with the title of "The World's Largest Anime Event." Open to the public on March 28-29, the event has expanded to the largest area in its 13-year history, hosting basketball-court-sized booths from giants such as Aniplex, MAPPA, Netflix, and Toei Animation. This year's organization brought together thousands of anime enthusiasts not only from Japan but from all over the world.
Many announcements that excited fans came one after another in this year's presentations. In particular, new visuals shared regarding Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 (Culling Game arc), the highly anticipated "Elbaph Arc" of One Piece starting in April 2026, and "The Calamity," the final part of the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War series, shook social media. Additionally, the announcement that the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run adaptation will meet audiences in March 2026 and the renewal confirmation for Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 were among the most talked-about topics at the fair.
The event was not limited to announcements; in the organization where the popular idol group Sakurazaka46 served as official ambassadors, famous voice actors met with fans on four different main stages (Red, Green, Blue, and White). While special areas like Family Anime Festa and Cosplayer's World appealed to visitors of all ages, AJ Gacha and limited-edition licensed merchandise booths were flooded by collectors. On March 30-31, special business days will be held for industry professionals and media to discuss the future of the industry.
Born in 2014 with the merger of the Tokyo International Anime Fair and Anime Contents Expo, AnimeJapan is now the most critical platform determining the course of the global anime industry. Following this year's massive organization, the organizers shared one more big surprise for fans: AnimeJapan 2027 will be held in Osaka, moving outside of Tokyo for the first time in its history. This strategic move aims to further consolidate the influence of anime culture across Japan and on the international stage.
