Release Date and New Trailer for Expelled from Paradise: Resonance!

The moment science fiction enthusiasts have been waiting for for over a decade is finally approaching! A new trailer and key visual have been shared for Expelled from Paradise: Resonance (Rakuen Tsuiho: Kokoro no Resonance), the sequel to the 2014 hit Expelled from Paradise (Rakuen Tsuiho). According to the official announcement, the film will meet audiences in Japanese theaters on November 13, 2026. This new production is not just a sequel, but also brings the original team back together after many years.
The creative team behind the film consists of some of the most respected names in the anime world. Seiji Mizushima, known for Fullmetal Alchemist and Mobile Suit Gundam 00, sits in the director's chair, while the script is penned by Gen Urobuchi, the architect of dark science fiction masterpieces such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass. The return of names like Masatsugu Saito for character designs and NARASAKI for the music is the greatest proof that the unique atmosphere of the first film will be preserved. Additionally, the inclusion of popular voice actors such as Ayane Sakura, Saori Hayami, Yoshino Aoyama, and Sally Amaki will bring a fresh breath to the story.
So, why is this sequel so important? The original 2014 film held the distinction of being Toei Animation's first original feature film in 40 years. Despite being released in only 13 theaters, it achieved unexpected success, grossing 100 million yen in two weeks. Produced entirely with 3D CG animation, the work became a modern science fiction classic by exploring the conflict between digital consciousness (DEVA) and physical bodies. With Resonance, a much more fluid and visually stunning action experience is promised, thanks to the progress technology has made over the last decade.
The good news for fans is not limited to just the film. Among the announcements is the news that a new Expelled from Paradise video game is in development, scheduled for release in the winter of 2026. While it has not yet been fully revealed how the story of Angela Balzac and Dingo will continue in the film, the snowy scenes and new characters in the released trailer indicate that the series' universe will expand significantly. Science fiction and mecha lovers should definitely mark this date on their 2026 calendars!
