Fate/strange Fake Series Concludes: End of Light Novels and Anime Season Finale Details

The end of the road has appeared for Fate/strange Fake, one of the most extraordinary entries in the Fate universe. Renowned author Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!, Baccano!) has officially announced that the light novel series, which has been ongoing since 2015, will conclude with its 10th volume. Expected to hit shelves in the summer of 2026, this final volume will reveal all the secrets of the chaotic "False Holy Grail War" in Snowfield. In a statement on social media, Narita apologized to fans, explaining that he wanted to add more detail to the story due to the excitement generated by the anime, which led him to postpone the final volume to the summer.
This news of a farewell in the literary world comes simultaneously with exciting developments on the anime front. The anime adaptation, produced by A-1 Pictures, concluded its first season with the 13th episode, which aired on March 28, 2026. The season finale was filled with references that particularly delighted Fate/Zero fans. The episode delved deep into how Altria Pendragon's (Saber) greatest moments of failure in the past became a source of inspiration for Richard the Lionheart (Saber). Furthermore, with a short teaser video and a new visual released immediately after the finale, it was announced that the second season of the series is currently in production.
The history of Fate/strange Fake actually has a quite interesting backstory. The series was first shared on Narita's website in 2008 as an April Fools' joke titled "Fake/states night." Due to intense fan interest, it evolved into an official light novel series in 2015, set in the fictional city of Snowfield, Nevada. The "False Grail War," created when a mage organization based in the United States attempted to copy the ritual in Fuyuki, brings with it distorted classes and unexpected heroic spirits, setting the series apart from other Fate works.
A busy schedule awaits fans in the coming period. The Blu-ray box set, which will go on sale in Japan on May 27, 2026, will include both the Whispers of Dawn special episode and the 13-episode first season. While the release date for the second season of the series, whose music is composed by the legendary Hiroyuki Sawano, has not yet been clarified, how the story will evolve with the publication of the final novel is already a subject of great curiosity within the community. The storm in Snowfield has not yet subsided; on the contrary, it seems the real war is just beginning.
