Promotional Video Released for Meiji the Cat's Eye Stage Play

The first promotional video has been released for the new stage play "Meiji the Cat's Eye", adapted from Tsukasa Hojo's iconic manga Cat's Eye. According to Natalie's report, the video features the three thieving sisters (Hitomi, Rui, and Ai) performing acrobatic moves and dazzling scenes in Meiji-period atmosphere and costumes. The play aims to offer fans a different experience by transporting the original story to 19th-century Japan.
The original Cat's Eye manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1984 and quickly achieved cult status. While telling the story of three sisters who steal artworks, it also explored the romantic tension with detective Toshio Utsumi. After this work, Tsukasa Hojo became world-famous with City Hunter. Now, the same creator's work is being adapted for the stage, gaining a new dimension.
In the released video, notable moments include the three sisters gliding across rooftops, dancing in front of sets reflecting the period's Japanese architecture, and showcasing impressive fight choreography. The play is directed by Nelke Planning, and the costume designs are said to faithfully adhere to Meiji-era aesthetics. Unlike the original series' modern 1980s atmosphere, fans will have the chance to watch thieving adventures in a historical setting this time.
The premiere of the "Meiji the Cat's Eye" stage play will take place on September 5, 2025, at the Kinroku Theatre in Tokyo. Tickets are expected to attract great interest, and the play is also planned to be staged in Osaka and Kyoto as part of a tour. For Cat's Eye fans, this adaptation offers an opportunity to experience the classic series from a completely different perspective. The new footage showcases the energy of the play and the dedication of the creative team.
