Release Date Announced for Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend: The Finale Approaches!

We are one step closer to the end of Sakuta and Mai's story! The release date for the long-awaited Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend (Seishun Buta Yarou wa Dear Friend no Yume wo Minai) film has been officially announced. With the release of the new trailer, it has been confirmed that the film will meet moviegoers in Japan on October 16. This new production will continue the "University Student" arc of the series while moving the story toward an emotional finale.
The original light novel series, written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keji Mizoguchi, gained worldwide popularity with the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai anime released in 2018. Exploring the theme of "Adolescence Syndrome," the series managed to distinguish itself from its peers by blending supernatural events with the psychological depth of its characters. Following the 2019 Dreaming Girl film, we said goodbye to Sakuta Azusagawa's high school life with the Sister Venturing Out and Knapsack Kid films.
The new film is adapted from the 15th and final volume of the series, which bears the same name. This means that Sakuta's mysterious and emotional journey, which has lasted for years, will reach its peak with this film. As we can understand from the trailer, the challenges our characters face in university life and their ties from the past will be at the center of the story. While CloverWorks studio is expected to deliver excellent visual craftsmanship once again, the director's chair is occupied by the series veteran Sōichi Masui.
This news carries both an exciting and slightly bittersweet meaning for fans of the series. For those of us who have been watching the bond between Mai Sakurajima and Sakuta for years, this finale marks the end of an era. Although it is not yet clear when it will come to international platforms after its October release date, we hope we won't have to wait too long, given the series' past success. Are you ready to say goodbye to Adolescence Syndrome?
