Great News for Saga of Tanya the Evil Fans: Season 2 Release Date Announced!

The silence that has lasted for years has finally been broken! At the AnimeJapan 2026 event held in Tokyo, a major announcement was made that thrilled fans of the beloved military fantasy series Saga of Tanya the Evil (Youjo Senki). According to the official statement made at the Kadokawa panel, the highly anticipated second season of the series will meet the audience in July 2026. The production, whose first season aired in 2017 and was renewed for a sequel in 2021, is preparing to return to the front lines after a wait of nearly five years.
Not only was the release date announced at the event, but a unique interactive experience area was also set up for fans. Visitors can participate in a sniper shooting range at a special booth within AnimeJapan, where they attempt to shoot Being X to meet Tanya's expectations. This fun activity brings the dark and ambitious atmosphere of the series to the fairgrounds while reminding everyone of Tanya's endless war against divine powers.
Significant changes and returns are noteworthy on the production side for the new season. Studio NUT returns to the animation chair to maintain the series' unique, harsh, and impressive visuals. However, there is a change in leadership on the directorial side; replacing Yutaka Uemura, who directed the first season, is Takayuki Yamamoto, known for his successful episode direction in major projects like My Hero Academia. On the screenwriting side, Kenta Ihara will continue to handle the series composition, ensuring narrative consistency.
The legendary voice cast remains in place. Aoi Yuki will once again bring the character of Tanya Degurechaff to life with her iconic and chilling voice. She will be accompanied by names such as Saori Hayami (Visha) and Shinichiro Miki (Rerugen). Set in the autumn of the Unified Year 1926, the new season will focus on Tanya's rise within the empire and the increasingly complex political balance of the war. This sequel, arriving after a nine-year gap, is considered one of the biggest comebacks in the anime world in recent years.
