Keroro Gunsou Returns: 20th Anniversary Film and New Anime Series Announced!

The long-awaited good news for Keroro Gunsou (Sgt. Frog) fans has finally arrived. As part of the series' 20th-anniversary celebrations, a new feature film set to hit theaters on June 26th and a brand-new television anime starting in the fall season have been officially announced. These new projects will bring the frog-like aliens' attempts to conquer Earth (Pekopon) back to the screen with a modern touch.
The feature film, which will meet audiences in June, will introduce two new characters that will bring a fresh breath to the series. Although the names and roles of the characters are still being kept secret, the producers state that these characters will disrupt the plans of the Keroro Platoon. While preserving the series' classic humorous structure and iconic parody style, the film promises a major leap in visual quality with modern animation technology.
The biggest surprise, however, was the new TV anime starting in the fall season. Unlike the original production, this new series will feature an entirely new voice cast (re-cast). This move is considered a fresh start aimed at introducing the series to a new generation of anime viewers. This modern interpretation of the Sgt. Frog universe has excited both old fans and those who will be starting the series for the first time.
Created by the famous artist Mine Yoshizaki, Keroro Gunsou first began publication as a manga in 1999. The original 358-episode anime series, which aired between 2004 and 2011, became a global phenomenon, especially with its Gundam references and pop culture parodies. The main character Keroro's passion for collecting Gunpla (Gundam models) instead of focusing on his invasion plans had earned the series a cult status within the anime community.
This major comeback could lead to a global revival of the long-dormant series. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how the new voice cast will reflect the spirit of the original characters and how the story will be adapted to the modern world. The film in June seems to be the perfect warm-up round before the big premiere in the fall.
