Fuji TV Steps into Webtoon World with TOON8: First Series Now on LINE Manga

Fuji TV, one of Japan's major television networks, has officially entered the webtoon industry. Announced on June 5, 2026, the new label TOON8 stands out as one of the channel's most ambitious moves in the digital content space. The first surprise came with a partnership with the popular digital manga platform LINE Manga.
TOON8's first release is the webtoon Hōfuku no Assassin Doll (Revenge Assassin Doll) by Whomor. The series is available to readers through LINE Manga. Fuji TV's move is seen as part of a strategy to secure a place in the growing digital comics market, going beyond traditional broadcasting.
Fuji TV was previously known as the broadcaster of iconic anime such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Death Note. However, with changes in broadcast revenue and the rise of digital platforms in recent years, the company is turning to new business areas. The TOON8 label aims to include not only Fuji TV's own productions but also externally sourced webtoons. LINE Manga, as South Korea-based Naver's largest digital manga platform in Japan, reaches millions of users.
This partnership is significant as the webtoon sector gains increasing attention in Japan. Unlike traditional manga culture, webtoons—characterized by their vertical scrolling format and colorful panels—are gaining popularity, especially among young readers. Fuji TV's entry into this field could set an example for other Japanese television channels. In the future, new series under the TOON8 label are expected to be announced, and perhaps anime adaptations of these webtoons may follow.
