New Action RPG from Pokémon Developer Game Freak: Release Date Announced for Beast of Reincarnation!

Game Freak, the developer of Pokémon, one of the world's most popular game series, has delivered the long-awaited news regarding its new project, previously known by the codename "Project Bloom": Beast of Reincarnation. With the release of a new pre-order trailer, it has been confirmed that the game will launch on August 4, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam/Microsoft Store). Another key detail announced is that the game will be added to the Xbox Game Pass library on day one.
Beast of Reincarnation takes us two thousand years into the future, to a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026. In this world, turned into ruins by a mysterious plague called "Blight," we will witness the story of Emma, a young woman ostracized from society, and her loyal companion, a corrupted dog named Koo. The game offers a "one person, one dog" themed action RPG experience, featuring an innovative combat mechanic that blends Emma's real-time sword combos with Koo's turn-based command system. Players will earn points by performing successful parries with Emma and use these points to trigger Koo's powerful abilities.
This project represents a historic turning point for Game Freak. Known primarily for Pokémon games exclusive to Nintendo platforms, the studio is now venturing into multi-platform territory with a darker, more mature aesthetic, published by Fictions (formerly Private Division). The game is directed by Kota Furushima, who previously worked on the combat systems of many Pokémon games, while the character designs are created by the renowned artist Pablo Uchida. With this title, the studio aims to shed the label of "just a monster-catching game maker" and prove that it can produce original AAA-quality IPs.
The game is currently available for pre-order in two different editions. Players who pre-order the Standard Edition will receive a special "Brown Shiba" costume for Koo and 30,000 Amber, the in-game currency. In addition to these rewards, the Deluxe Edition offers a "Black Shiba" costume, an "Oni Hat" for Emma, a special "Big Dipper" sword, and various in-game resources. Drawing inspiration from the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Nier series, this technical action game looks set to be one of the most ambitious titles of 2026 for both Game Freak fans and enthusiasts of challenging action RPGs.
