Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199's 6th Film Gets a Surprising Trailer: Yamato in Modern Tokyo!

Exciting new details have been shared for Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 (Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199), the highly anticipated sixth film in the series, titled "Aoi Meikyu" (Blue Labyrinth). Set to hit theaters in Japan on June 26, 2026, this new chapter features a scene that will surely surprise fans of the series. The latest promotional video released shows the iconic spaceship Yamato appearing in the Reiwa-era Tokyo, representing the modern world of today.
In the special clip shared under the title "Yamato Appears in Reiwa-era Tokyo," the massive battleship is seen gliding over the Tokyo Skytree. The sight of people on the street recording the moment with their smartphones in astonishment marks a radical departure from the series' usual futuristic atmosphere. General director Harutoshi Fukui, in a previous statement regarding the story's connection to the present day, remarked, "I wrote this script five or six years ago, but surprisingly, it is eerily relevant to today's times." This suggests that the series is moving beyond being just a space opera and may be touching upon complex themes such as the multiverse or time travel.
Planned as a seven-film series, this project serves as a modern remake of the 1980 original Be Forever Yamato film and the Space Battleship Yamato III television series. Produced by Studio Mother, the production features experienced names such as screenwriter Harutoshi Fukui and director Naomichi Yamato. The series follows events that begin in 2207 when a massive object called Grand Reverse breaches Earth's defenses and occupies the capital. With the sixth film, the story invites viewers into a "labyrinth of time," leading to the biggest turning point before the finale.
The Space Battleship Yamato legend has been considered one of the most deep-rooted works in the anime world since its creation by Leiji Matsumoto and Yoshinobu Nishizaki in 1974. Brought into the modern era with the 2199 project that began in 2012, the series continued its success with the 2202 and 2205 projects. Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting June 26 to discover why and how Yamato arrived in modern Tokyo. This epic journey, which can also be followed via Crunchyroll, continues to appeal to new generations of viewers with high-quality animation techniques while preserving its nostalgic elements.
