Final Trailer for The Ninth Jedi Anime Series: Premiere August 5 on Disney+

The final trailer for the anime series The Ninth Jedi, prepared by Disney+ as part of Star Wars: Visions Presents, has been released. The limited series, bearing the signature of Production I.G, will have its world premiere on the platform on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The trailer highlights lightsaber-focused action, mysterious characters, and a unique animation language in this expanded story.
The Ninth Jedi actually came to life as a short film. The episode, which was included in the first season of the Star Wars: Visions anthology released on September 22, 2021, was written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama. Kamiyama is a name known for works such as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Blade Runner: Black Lotus; he has returned to expand the story in this project. The short film managed to become a favorite among fans with its story of characters trying to restore the Jedi Order, tested within a dark conspiracy.
The new series is considered an important step in the Star Wars universe's investment in anime. The Visions anthology started with nine short films from seven different Japanese studios in its first season; in the second season, released on May 4, 2023, studios from different countries around the world joined. The transformation of The Ninth Jedi into a spinoff series is a strong indication that the stories in the anthology can stand on their own. In this respect, the project stands out as the first production to expand an episode under the 'Visions Presents' title.
In the final trailer, the philosophical and suspenseful tone of the original short film appears to be preserved. Lucasfilm's recent approach of giving anime studios a greater say while producing exclusive content for Disney+ brings the Star Wars universe together with the narrative patterns of Japanese animation. Especially the production quality and choreography make it feel like this series is not just an expansion of a short film, but a production with its own identity.
The Ninth Jedi will meet the audience on Disney+ on August 5. The number of episodes in the series and what kind of release schedule it will follow in subsequent episodes are a matter of curiosity. If this expanded story meets expectations, it will not be surprising if other popular episodes from the Visions anthology also get a similar spinoff chance.
