Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun Film Releases First 2 Minutes, Shoko Nakagawa Joins Cast
The Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun universe is moving to the big screen, and the first major preview for fans has arrived. The production team shared the first 2 minutes of the upcoming anime film through official channels. Additionally, it was confirmed that singer and voice actress Shoko Nakagawa, previously announced to perform the film's theme song, will also bring different alien characters to life with her voice in the film.
The shared 2-minute opening clip shows that the film preserves the warm and entertaining atmosphere of the television series. The clip features slices of daily life from elementary school student Kotetsu, who has a great curiosity about space, and his friends, as well as the first hints of the film's main space adventure. The animation is again handled by Studio Comet, as in the television series, with Yasuhiro Kimura, who also directed the series, in the director's chair. The film is being promoted as the series' largest-scale story to date.
The most striking announcement about the film was regarding Shoko Nakagawa (Shokotan). Nakagawa, known for numerous theme songs from the Pokémon series and voice roles in productions such as Gurren Lagann and Fullmetal Alchemist, will not only sing the theme song for this film. According to the announcement, Nakagawa will voice multiple alien characters appearing in the film and will take on a role that strengthens the comedic element of the story. In her statement, Nakagawa said, "Being part of the space theme that adorns children's dreams and giving voice to cute aliens is a great joy for me."
Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun is actually a long-established children's series. The original manga created by Atsuko Nishida and Tomohiro Nishimura began publication in 2017 and met audiences as an anime adaptation on NHK E-Tele in 2021. Prepared in collaboration with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and aiming to make children love space, the series is known for weaving real astronomy and space science knowledge into its entertaining stories. The anime, which has continued for 4 seasons and surpassed 100 episodes, is quite popular among preschool and elementary school children in Japan.
Because this is the first theatrical film of the television series, the project holds special importance for fans. The production committee plans to release the film across Japan in the winter 2026 season. Although it is not yet clear whether the film will be the finale of the television series, the production team states that the film will offer a story that brings Kotetsu one step closer to his greatest dream of going to space. New trailers and visuals for the film are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
