Fist of the North Star Returns: New Anime to Stream Uncensored on Prime Video!

The legendary martial arts series Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken) is preparing to return to screens with a modern anime adaptation, and a technical detail that has excited fans of the series has been shared. According to the official announcement, the new anime series will be presented to the audience in two different versions. While television channels in Japan, TOKYO MX and BS11, will broadcast the series as the "Mild ver.," Prime Video will exclusively add the "Uncensored Version" (Mushusei ver.) to its library, preserving the violence and grotesque scenes that have become the series' signature.
This decision is of great importance in terms of staying true to the nature of the series. The original manga, written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, is one of the most iconic works of the 1980s, known for exploding heads and extreme body dismemberment. The original anime series, which aired between 1984 and 1988, had to hide these scenes with light effects or shading due to the broadcasting standards of that era. The fact that the new project offers an uncensored option means that we will see the destructive power of Kenshiro in all its raw glory with modern animation technology.
This new project, titled Fist of the North Star -FIST OF THE NORTH STAR-, is being brought to life as part of the series' 40th-anniversary celebrations. Announced by Warner Bros. Japan, the production aims to tell the original story from the very beginning with current visual standards. The creators of the series, Buronson and Tetsuo Hara, state that this new adaptation will both satisfy old fans and best reflect the horror and tragedy of the Hokuto Shinken art to the new generation of viewers.
Although a definitive release date has not yet been given, the series is expected to meet the audience in 2025. The production, which will also be available via TVer for those who miss the television broadcasts, will likely be accessible uncensored via Prime Video for fans worldwide. This move appears to be a candidate for one of the biggest examples of the "platform-exclusive uncensored content" trend that has been increasing in the anime industry in recent years.
