Gundam Series Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary: New Short Film, Gundam-Con Event, and 'Gundam Day' Declared

Gundam series has made a series of exciting announcements for its 50th anniversary. According to Anime News Network, April 7 has been officially declared 'Gundam Day'. This date refers to the day the first Gundam anime began airing in 1979.
As part of the celebrations, a special short film is being prepared. This project, whose name has not yet been announced, is expected to offer a symbolic story reflecting the spirit of the series. Additionally, a major fan event called 'Gundam-Con' will be held in January 2027. The event will introduce new projects, panels, and exclusive merchandise.
Meanwhile, the life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue located in Tokyo's Odaiba area will be removed in August. This impressive statue, which has welcomed visitors since 2017, may make way for a new installation. The removal of the statue is seen as part of the 50th anniversary events.
The Gundam series, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, has reached millions of fans since 1979 as a pioneer of the mecha genre.
