A Giant Partnership from KADOKAWA and Aniplex: Animeck's First Film List and Release Dates Announced!

Two giant names in the anime industry, KADOKAWA and Aniplex (Sony Group), are preparing to make their mark on the cinema world through their joint distribution company Animeck, which they established in recent months. Born from the combination of the words "Anime" and "Cinema," Animeck has officially shared its first major productions and release dates. This partnership not only combines the libraries of the two companies but also creates a very strong alternative to the traditional distribution giants in Japan, Toho and Toei.
The most notable production on the list is The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE: Yotsuba Succession Arc (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Yotsuba Keishou-hen), which is adapted from the light novel series that has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. This important story arc, which fans have been waiting for a long time, will be released in Japan on May 8, 2026. While Jimmy Stone, whom we know from the third season of the series, sits in the director's chair, the animation production is once again undertaken by the Eightbit studio. This critical adventure, which will determine the fate of the Yotsuba clan for siblings Tatsuya Shiba and Miyuki Shiba, will be the biggest part of the series' tenth-anniversary celebrations.
Animeck's other major announcement was about the recent popular "death game" themed series Shihou Yuugi: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table (Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu). Following the 11-episode TV anime released in early 2026, the feature film covering the Cloudy Beach arc, which is a continuation of the story, will meet the audience on July 10, 2026. Produced by Studio Deen, this production will bring the professional struggle of Yuki, who participates in deadly games to survive, to the big screen. This rapid transition is seen as part of Animeck's strategy to move successful TV series to the cinema format without wasting time.
The industrial power behind this new formation is also quite remarkable. These ties, which deepened with Sony becoming KADOKAWA's largest shareholder, are turning into a global distribution network through Animeck. The company's name also serves as a tribute to the popular 1980s anime magazine Animec. For fans, this is a harbinger of films with higher production quality and a more organized release schedule. With the addition of new projects like Mono to this list in the coming period, anime cinema seems poised to experience one of its golden ages.
