Pan no Akachan Becomes a TV Series: Cute Bread Babies Return with Stop-Motion Style!

CHOCOLATE Inc., one of Japan's creative content studios, has made an exciting announcement for its original short anime Pan no Akachan (Bread Babies), which has garnered great interest on social media. According to the official statement, the series will meet audiences as a regular TV series within the popular morning program “Doyō wa Nani suru!?”, which airs on the Kansai TV and Fuji TV networks, starting July 4, 2026. The most striking change in this new era of the series is in the animation technique; the characters, which were first born as computer-based CG animation in 2024, will now come to life with the traditional stop-motion technique.
The team behind the production collaborated with Dwarf Studios (AOI Pro.), one of the giants of the stop-motion world, to realize this artistic change. Known for projects like Rilakkuma and Kaoru and Hidari, the studio aims to reflect the unique "monyo-monyo" (soft and squirmy) texture and movements of the bread dough in the most realistic way. Shuhei Harada from Dwarf Studios stated that by using materials that directly resemble dough texture instead of fabric in their work, they have added a more tactile and warm atmosphere to the characters. The first promotional video released already showcases how fascinating this new aesthetic is.
Pan no Akachan takes place in a bakery kitchen during the night hours when people are asleep. The series, which focuses on the secret world of bread dough that has not yet been baked, i.e., in the "baby" stage, tells the adventures of these little heroes as they clean, joke around, or bicker with each other. The focus of the new TV series is Cream Pan no Akachan
