Korean Voice Actress of Crayon Shin-chan, Hee-sun Kang, Passes Away at 65

Hee-sun Kang, a beloved figure in the world of Korean animation and dubbing, has passed away at the age of 65. The artist was best known for voicing the character Misae Nohara in the Korean dub of the long-running anime series Crayon Shin-chan. The news of her passing was announced to the public through an emotional social media post by her son, Eun-seok Ahn, who is also a well-known producer.
In a post following the funeral, Eun-seok Ahn expressed his love and gratitude for his mother. He wrote, “You held a place in many people's hearts not only as a mother but also as an artist. The gratitude of the generations who grew up with your voice is eternal.” Hee-sun Kang’s passing has caused deep sadness within the Korean dubbing community and among anime fans.
Crayon Shin-chan is a comedy anime series that has been airing in Japan since 1992 and has millions of fans worldwide. Kang, who voiced the character Misae Nohara (Shin-chan’s mother) for many years in the series, which also reached a large fan base in Korea, became a legend in this role. Throughout her career, she provided voice work for dozens of different series and films, and she was also known for her work in theater acting and radio broadcasting.
The Korean dubbing industry holds great importance, especially in the adaptation of Japanese anime into Korean. Master figures like Hee-sun Kang enable viewers to connect with stories through the local tone and emotion they bring to characters. Her passing represents the loss of one of the most important cornerstones of this cultural bridge. While fans share their memories on social media using the hashtags #HeeSunKang and #CrayonShinchan, other voice actors in the industry have also published messages of condolence.
While Kang’s family held a private memorial service, a farewell event for her fans is being planned for the coming days. Although the character Misae, to whom she gave life with her voice, will continue with a different voice actor in new episodes, Hee-sun Kang’s interpretation will always be remembered with nostalgia. The legacy she left behind will continue to live on in memories as a beautiful example of how the art of voice acting is passed from one generation to the next.
