Elden Ring Live-Action Film Coming in 2028: Massive Cast and Release Date Announced

Elden Ring, one of the biggest phenomena in the gaming world in recent years, is being adapted for the cinema in a massive production. Bandai Namco Entertainment and the shining star of independent cinema, A24 studio, have officially announced that the live-action film will be released on March 3, 2028. The director's chair will be occupied by Alex Garland, known for cult productions such as Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, and who is also an avid gamer himself. The production, which draws attention with its budget exceeding 100 million dollars, will be shot entirely in IMAX format, and the production process will begin in the spring of 2026.
The film's cast is just as exciting as its director. According to the official statement, the cast includes popular names such as Kit Connor (Heartstopper), Nick Offerman (The Last of Us), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus), and Sonoya Mizuno (House of the Dragon). Additionally, experienced actors such as Jonathan Pryce, Ben Whishaw, and Tom Burke will bring the mysterious characters of The Lands Between to life. Although it has not yet been announced which actor will play which character, it is stated that Alex Garland has prepared a 160-page epic script draft and will remain faithful to the game's dark, gloomy atmosphere.
Behind this massive project lies the deep mythology established by the game's creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin, author of the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series. Released in 2022 and selling over 30 million copies worldwide, Elden Ring has become not just a game, but a massive universe capable of expansion. The fact that the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion pack released last year reached 10 million sales and the multiplayer spin-off Nightreign reached 5 million proves that the series' popularity is at its peak. Miyazaki had previously stated in his remarks that they were looking for a 'very strong partner' to move this universe to other media; it appears that A24 has more than earned that trust.
This move by Elden Ring will be a new link in the successful transitions from the gaming world to cinema (like The Last of Us and Fallout). The series had previously appeared in different formats, such as the comedy-focused The Road to the Erdtree manga by Nikiichi Tobita and the more serious-toned Become Lord webcomic. However, the film coming in 2028 aims to bring the epic and tragic story of The Lands Between to the widest possible audience. Fans are already eagerly waiting to see how iconic figures like Malenia, Radahn, and Ranni will look on the big screen and how the ancient history written by George R. R. Martin will be handled.
