The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie Arriving Sooner Than Expected: Release Date Updated

There is an exciting development for Nintendo fans! Legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto has announced that the release date for the highly anticipated live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been updated. Previously scheduled for May 7, 2027, the film will now meet audiences worldwide one week earlier, on April 30, 2027. In a statement made via social media, Miyamoto noted that the team is working with great dedication to bring the film to fans even a day earlier.
The film is directed by Wes Ball, known for the Maze Runner series and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. It is being produced by Miyamoto alongside Avi Arad, the name behind the Spider-Man films. The project is being carried out in partnership between Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with more than 50% of the funding provided by Nintendo itself. It has been confirmed that we will see Benjamin Evan Ainsworth in the role of Link and Bo Bragason in the role of Princess Zelda.
Director Wes Ball previously made a comparison that excited fans, describing the film's atmosphere as a "live-action Studio Ghibli movie." Ball aims to bring the unique sense of wonder and magic found in Hayao Miyazaki's works to the world of Hyrule. With 2026 marking the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series, this film project holds even greater significance for fans. While it has been reported that filming was completed as of April 2026, the focus for the coming year will be on visual effects and post-production stages.
