A New Webtoon from the Creators of Sweet Home: Copycat and Exciting New Manga Debuting in Japan
The world of webtoons and manga is quite active these days! The creative duo behind the legendary Sweet Home and Bastard series, Carnby Kim and Youngchan Hwang, are returning with a new thriller project that has fans excited. Titled Copycat, this new webtoon explores the deep psychological processes that begin when an author discovers their work has been plagiarized, and the complex reactions of the character to this situation. These literary characters, who attempt to uncover the government's dark secrets, offer a unique narrative that blends historical reality with fantasy. As is well known, Soseki and Ichiyo are cultural figures important enough to have appeared on Japan's old banknotes.
On the same day, the series Maou no Musume wa Ikigitanai (The Demon King's Daughter is Tenacious) by Yu Hakone began on the Shonen Sunday S and Sunday Webry platforms. The story centers on the Demon King's daughter, who wants to live a peaceful daily life but constantly encounters obstacles. To achieve this peace, our character uses the popular theme of the "return from death" ability. The series' author, Yu Hakone, is currently enjoying great popularity with their work Kimi wa Meido-sama (You Are Ms. Servant), which will have an anime adaptation airing in October 2024.
These new announcements highlight both the power of psychological thrillers in the webtoon world and the trend in the manga industry of reinterpreting historical figures through fantasy fiction. The reunion of the Carnby Kim and Youngchan Hwang duo, in particular, has created great expectations in the industry following the global success of Sweet Home.
