Dawn of Vengeance — Chapter 13

Dawn of Vengeance Chapter 13 opens with His Majesty and his hidden men waiting in ambush, trying to stay quiet and relaxed even as they admit to feeling nervous about such a reckless plan. While they wait past three o'clock, the conversation turns to the coolant stone carried by Whiss, who explains that without it he would collapse from heatstroke because the central region's weather is unbearable for the Lafi, and that only twelve Lafi serve including himself. The idle talk is interrupted when a scout reports eight thousand enemy troops on the move, with four thousand heading to command headquarters and another four thousand to the royal palace, exactly as His Majesty predicted. Dawn of Vengeance Chapter 13 then shifts to His Majesty confirming that the road to the palace is clear and civilians have been evacuated, intending to lure the enemy inside while dismissing Goedel Kill as nowhere near his level and telling Zen to go wild. Meanwhile the enemy commander advances toward the royal palace before sunrise, planning to burn illusion herbs to put the Lycans to sleep and capture that woman to end the war, confident that letting Lafi scouts see two thousand men has misled the capital's army. The trap springs when the advancing force runs into dream-herb effects, with soldiers shouting about illusion herbs and ordering a retreat while His Majesty's side moves to protect him and finish the fight quickly. Dawn of Vengeance Chapter 13 closes on that chaotic reversal, as covering noses only delays the herbs for ten minutes at best and the attackers realize their palace assault has played directly into the ambush.
