BJORN, SON OF YANDEL! STEP FORWARD!

YOUNG WARRIOR.

PICK UP THE WEAPON OF YOUR CHOICE!

I WAS RIGHT!

BJORN, SON OF YANDEL.

THAT IS MY NAME!

NOW, TIME TO MAKE ANOTHER IMPORTANT DECISION.

BARBARIANS ARE BORN WITH VIRTUALLY NO MAGICAL AFFINITY.

HOWEVER, THEY HAVE GREAT PHYSICALITY TO COMPENSATE FOR THAT.

THAT IS WHY I BUILT MY BARBARIAN AS A MELEE ATTACKER WHEN I DIDN'T KNOW BETTER.

BUT I THINK I KNOW JUST THE RIGHT SORT OF ITEM TO CHOOSE.

IT'S THIS.

OH?

A SHIELD!

YUP, THIS IS THE BEST STARTING ITEM FOR A BARBARIAN!

BJORN, SON OF YANDEL!

YOU'VE NOW TAKEN THE FIRST STEP TOWARD BECOMING A WARRIOR!

SYNCHRONIZATION COMPLETE.

CHARACTER DATA AND JOURNAL ENTRY WILL BE LOGGED AND SENT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR._

[BJORN YANDEL] LEVEL: 1 PHYSIQUE: 25 SPIRIT: 35 SPECIAL ABILITY: 1 ITEM LEVEL: 24 (NEW+24) GENERAL COMBAT POWER: 67 (NEW+6)

BARBARIAN.

WHEN I FIRST STARTED THE GAME AS A BARBARIAN, I HAD INITIALLY CHOSEN A GREATSWORD AS THE STARTING WEAPON.

I MEAN, A GREATSWORD IS SO COOL!

THE PROBLEM WAS POOR DEFENSE. I WAS DYING WAY TOO EASILY.

ARGH NOT AGAIN!

WHAT THE HELL DO I HAVE TO DO IN ORDER TO MAKE HIM RESILIENT?!

I'VE TRIED TWO HANDED BATTLEAXE, WAR HAMMER, FLAIL, AND EVERY OTHER WEAPON...

...BUT THE ONLY BUILD I COULD HOPE TO GET OUT OF IT WAS A BERSERK BARBARIAN.

I HAD TO RISK MY CHARACTER'S LIFE EACH BATTLE, WHICH WAS A HIT OR MISS PRETTY MUCH EVERY TIME. IT WASN'T RELIABLE.

THEN THIS THOUGHT CAME TO MIND ONE DAY.

WHY DO I HAVE TO USE BARBARIAN AS A DAMAGE DEALER?

BARBARIANS ARE BLESSED WITH VITALITY AND STRENGTH.

ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOT USED AS TANKERS AS MUCH AS DWARVES,

THEY DO POSSESS THE FUNDAMENTALS TO BE PLAYED AS ONE.

I'LL HAVE TO RE-WORK ON BATTLE TACTICS IF I CHANGED HIS ROLE,

BUT I ANALYZED THE BARBARIAN WELL ANYWAYS. I SHOULD TRY IT OUT.

WHAT?!

player 1 level: S body: S2 mentality: S3 ability: 1S item level: 10 Comprehensiv : 225 (NEW+S)

6 damage to cockatrice! cockatrice did 7 damage! But It bounce off. the 6 damage has been back to cockatrice. You got 1 damage! skill : smash. It was effective. 10 damage to cockatrice! You knocked down a cockatrice. Experience +3

THIS IS FREAKIN' AWESOME!

THIS IS THE MOST LOGICAL DECISION I CAN MAKE BASED ON THE KNOWLEDGE I HAVE ABOUT THE GAME.

I HAVE NO REGRETS!

OPEN THE GATE!!

AFTER COMPLETING THE CEREMONY, THE BARBARIANS MUST ENTER WHAT'S CALLED THE LABYRINTH.

IN ORDER TO DO THAT, HOWEVER, WE MUST FIRST SET FOOT IN THE CITY WHERE IT IS LOCATED.

RAFDONIA.

EMBARK ON YOUR JOURNEY, WARRIORS.

THAT IS WHERE YOUR DESTINY LEADS YOU!

ALRIGHT, I'M RUNNING BECAUSE THEY ARE.

BUT DO THESE GUYS EVEN KNOW WHICH WAY WE'RE SUPPOSED TO GO?

STOP!!

I THINK I GOT LOST!!

?!

KARAK, THIRD SON OF FANUN LED US ASTRAY IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!

HE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE THE LEADER!

SH*THEADS.

YOU WERE FOLLOWING HIM BLINDLY UNTIL ONLY MOMENTS AGO.

ENOUGH! I ACCEPT.

I ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND WILL NO LONGER BE LEADING FROM THE FRONT.

THEN I WILL BE LEADING FROM THE FRONT NOW!

AINAR, SECOND DAUGHTER OF FENELIN!

AINAR IS A CLEVER WOMAN! SHE'LL LEAD US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!

... AINAR, EH?

...I THINK I'M LOST.

YOU TOO?!

THAT'S NO GOOD!

WE MUST GO TO THE LABYRINTH BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

AINAR DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE LEADING US FROM THE FRONT!

JIN, SECOND SON OF TETRAN SHOULD LEAD US NOW!

NO! I DON'T THINK HE IS A GOOD GUIDE! I NOMINATE--

...DOES ANY OF THESE MORONS HAVE A BRAIN?

WE WON'T REACH THE LABYRINTH IN TIME AT THIS RATE.

AND I DON'T WANT TO STEP UP AND DRAW UNNECESSARY ATTENTION JUST YET.

HEY.

BJORN, SON OF YANDEL.

ARE YOU HERE TO BLAME ME AS WELL?

NO.

I WANT TO TELL YOU HOW TO NAVIGATE.

D-DO YOU SPEAK THE TRUTH? HOW SO?

IT'S SIMPLE. JUST FOLLOW THOSE GUYS OVER THERE.

EWW. LOOK AT ALL THOSE BARBARIC MEATHEADS.

SO UNCIVILIZED.

THEY ARE FULLY EQUIPPED IN ARMOR AT NIGHT. THERE IS ONLY ONE PLACE THEY CAN BE HEADED TO.

I SEE!

OKAY. I WILL GIVE IT A TRY.

I FOUND A WAY TO THE LABYRINTH!!

IS THAT TRUE? YOU HAVE GREAT WISDOM!

AINAR THE WISE!

...I'M CONVINCED NOW. THEY DON'T HAVE BRAINS.

FOLLOW MY LEAD!!

IT'S THE LABYRINTH!

I CAN SEE THE LABYRINTH!

THE SACRED GROUND OF BATTLE!

HOLY CRAP. IT REALLY IS THE LABYRINTH.

...I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S WISE TO ENTER THE LABYRINTH FOR REAL.

I DON'T THINK ANYONE WOULD NOTICE IF I SLIPPED OUT DISCREETLY AND FLED RIGHT NOW.

I WASN'T BLESSED WITH GOOD HEALTH...

...AND HAVE NEVER THROWN A SINGLE PUNCH IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

DO I REALLY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO KILL A MONSTER THAT LURKS WITHIN THE SHADOWS?

THERE HAS BE A WAY TO PAY THE RAFDONIAN TAX WITHOUT ENTERING THE LABYRINTH.

GOD, I HATE THE TAX SYSTEM!

IT IS ONE OF THE WORST FEATURES OF THE GAME DUNGEON AND STONE.

ALL CITIZENS OF RAFDONIA MUST START PAYING TAXES UPON TURNING TWENTY IN AGE,

AND THOSE THAT FAIL TO DO SO ARE SENTENCED TO DEATH.

THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO MAKE MONEY IN THIS GAME, THE MOST POPULAR OF WHICH ARE...

NUMBER ONE, ENTERING THE LABYRINTH TO FIGHT MONSTERS...

...AND NUMBER TWO, WORKING AT AN ESTABLISHMENT LIKE A PUB IN THE CITY.

THE PROBLEM IS...

...THAT I AM.

...A BARBARIAN.

A BARBARIAN? WE DON'T HIRE UNCIVILIZED PEOPLE!

WE DON'T HAVE A JOB FOR MEATHEADS! YOU'RE GOING TO WRECK EVERYTHING IN THE STORE!

BARBARIANS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO WORK REGULAR JOBS IN-GAME. IT'S PROGRAMMED THAT WAY.

THAT IS WHY THEY'RE GIVEN A WEAPON AT THE START OF THE GAME, UNLIKE ANY OTHER CHARACTER.

BUT WHAT IF THE WORLD I AM IN RUNS BY A DIFFERENT SET OF RULES THAN THE ONE IN THE GAME I PLAYED? I WOULDN'T HAVE TO FIGHT MONSTERS THEN!

TEN MINUTES UNTIL THE GATE PORTAL CLOSES!

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM HERE...

...IS THAT THE GATE TO THE LABYRINTH ONLY OPENS ONCE A MONTH.

IF I FAIL TO ENTER TODAY, I'LL HAVE TO SPEND A MONTH HERE BEFORE THE NEXT TIME IT OPENS.

IF MY SUSPICIONS ARE CORRECT AND I REALLY CAN'T GET A REGULAR JOB JUST BECAUSE I'M A BARBARIAN... I CAN LIVE FOR A WEEK ON THE FOOD CHIEFTAIN GAVE EVERYONE IN THE BEGINNING. BUT AFTERWARDS...

I MAY BE ABLE TO BARELY SURVIVE A MONTH, BUT WILL BE IN NO CONDITION TO DO ANYTHING ELSE.

IF I'M GOING TO ENTER, NOW'S MY CHANCE.

BUT MY FEET ARE GLUED TO THE GROUND!!

BECAUSE I'M NOT PLAYING THE GAME IN FRONT OF THE COMPUTER ANYMORE. IT'S MY REAL LIFE ON THE LINE THIS TIME!

BJORN, SON OF YANDEL!

AINAR... TH-THIRD DAUGHTER OF... FENELIN...?

SECOND DAUGHTER.

ALL OTHER WARRIORS HAVE ENTERED THROUGH THE GATE PORTAL. YOU AND I ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT REMAIN.

WE MUST HURRY. WE DO NOT HAVE MUCH TIME BECAUSE WE ARRIVED LATE.

FIVE MINUTES UNTIL THE GATE CLOSES!

THE PORTAL IS VISIBLY GETTING SMALLER EACH PASSING SECOND.

GO ON. I’LL BE RIGHT BEHIND YOU.

OKAY.

BJORN, SON OF YANDEL.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE BEFORE.

...NO NEED TO THANK ME.

I WANT TO ASK YOU SOMETHING.

HOW CAN I BECOME WISE LIKE YOU?

I'VE NEVER SEEN A BARBARIAN AS SMART AS YOU IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

I WANT TO BE LIKE YOU.

YOU NEED TO BE REBORN...

I'LL JUST TELL HER WHATEVER.

ALWAYS THINK FIRST BEFORE YOU MOVE.

I SEE!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE! I WILL PAY YOU BACK IF I RETURN ALIVE FROM THE LABYRINTH.

IF SHE RETURNS ALIVE...?

BARBARIANS WERE NOT AFRAID OF ANYTHING IN THE GAME WHEN I PLAYED IT.

AND THEY DIDN'T LOOK MUCH DIFFERENT HERE, EITHER.

AINAR.

ARE YOU AFRAID OF DYING, TOO?

OF COURSE I AM.

I AM AFRAID OF DEATH.

HOWEVER, WE WERE BORN AS WARRIORS.

I DIE, IF I CANNOT FIGHT.

ISN'T THAT THE SAME FOR YOU?

...IT IS.

THEY'RE NO DIFFERENT FROM ME.

THEY HAVE FEAR AS WELL. IT'S JUST THAT THEY HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FIGHT.

WE CANNOT POSSIBLY SURVIVE IN THIS CITY WITHOUT HUNTING DOWN AND KILLING MONSTERS IN THE LABYRINTH.

I HOPE TO SEE YOU ALIVE, BJORN.

THAT IS PROBABLY WHY THE BARBARIANS LEARNED TO KEEP THEIR FEARS CONTAINED IN ORDER TO MOVE ON.

THAT'S WORTHY OF RESPECT.

AND I AM A BARBARIAN MYSELF!

ONE MINUTE BEFORE THE GATE CLOSES!

I AM AFRAID. HOWEVER...

THE GATE TO THE LABYRINTH WILL CLOSE SOON!

...I MUST DO THIS!

I HAVE THE STRONG PHYSIQUE OF THE BARBARIAN...

PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE PORTAL NOW, BECAUSE IT'S DANGEROUS--

...AND KNOWLEDGE I'VE GATHERED BY PLAYING THROUGH AS SO MANY CHARACTERS.

I WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES...

...TO SURVIVE HERE!

YOU HAVE ENTERED CRYSTAL CAVE ON THE FIRST FLOOR.

WHAT THE...

WHERE THE HELL AM I...?

Chapter Summary

Surviving The Game as a Barbarian Chapter 2 follows Bjorn, son of Yandel, as he chooses a shield over a greatsword to survive as a tank-style barbarian. After the warrior ceremony, he guides lost barbarians led by Karak and Ainar toward Rafdonia by following armored soldiers. Terrified of real death and trapped by harsh taxes, he finds resolve in Ainar's courage and enters the closing Labyrinth portal.

Chapter Analysis Surviving The Game as a Barbarian — Chapter 2
Surviving The Game as a Barbarian Chapter 2 centers on Bjorn, son of Yandel, making his first real survival decision during the warrior ceremony. Called forward to pick the weapon of his choice, he rejects the greatsword he once favored as a player and instead chooses a shield. His reasoning is practical rather than heroic: barbarians have almost no magical affinity but great physicality, and his past attempts with greatsword, battleaxe, war hammer, and flail only produced a fragile berserker build that died too easily. By choosing defense, he plans to use barbarian vitality and strength as a tanker, a more reliable path when death is now permanent. After synchronization completes and his Level 1 data is logged, the new warriors must travel to Rafdonia to enter the Labyrinth. Surviving The Game as a Barbarian Chapter 2 turns this journey into a comedy of bad leadership, as Karak, third son of Fanun, leads the group astray and steps down, followed by Ainar, second daughter of Fenelin, who also admits she is lost. Bjorn avoids drawing attention while the others argue over replacements such as Jin, second son of Tetran, then quietly advises Ainar to follow fully armored soldiers at night. That simple observation gets them to the Labyrinth, earning Ainar praise as Ainar the Wise. The closing movement is inward and tense. Bjorn hesitates before the shrinking portal, afraid because he remembers his former poor health, has no fighting experience, and understands Rafdonia's brutal tax system. Citizens over twenty must pay or die, barbarians cannot take regular city or pub jobs, and the gate opens only once a month, leaving him with about a week of food if he waits. Ainar's honesty breaks his paralysis: she fears death, but says she was born a warrior and dies if she cannot fight. Respecting that contained fear, Bjorn resolves to use his physique and game knowledge to survive, and Surviving The Game as a Barbarian Chapter 2 ends as he steps through into Crystal Cave on the first floor.
