Tsubakino takes center stage in Chapter 75, and it feels like the emotional payoff the entire post-KEEL stretch has been building toward. After chapters of learning about his past, his struggle with self-acceptance, and his gentle, almost sibling bond with Shizuka, we finally see what happens when that kindness is threatened. Shizuka's decision to sacrifice herself to keep her friends safe lights a fuse, and Tsubakino's usual flamboyant warmth drops into something cold, precise, and genuinely frightening.
What makes this chapter work so well is how it reframes strength through Tsubakino's lens. For Sakura, strength was about proving he could stand alone. For Tsubakino, strength is the exact opposite, it is the willingness to become terrifying so that someone else never has to be afraid again. His fury toward Gravel isn't hot-headed delinquent rage, it is protective and deliberate. Backed by the Sakaki twins carving a path through the enemy ranks, he moves like a storm with a clear purpose, and you can feel the shift in the battlefield the moment he steps in.
Plot-wise, the confrontation with Gravel escalates from harassment into full war. Roppo Ichiza's underlings came expecting easy prey in Shizuka, but Bofurin's response shows why the town trusts them so implicitly. The first-years, especially Sakura and Nirei, are forced to watch what a Heavenly King level fight actually looks like, which puts their own recent growth into perspective. They have come so far since the tightrope moment and the Pill Bug training, yet there is still another ceiling above them.
Emotionally, the core is shame transformed into resolve. Tsubakino once hid who he was, now he weaponizes his whole self without apology. Nii's art sells it beautifully, with flowing, almost dance-like paneling for Tsubakino's strikes contrasted against heavy, shadowed close-ups of his eyes when his anger surfaces. It is graceful and brutal at once, and it cements him as one of the most compelling figures in Bofurin.
