After War Gundam X Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary: New Visual and Special Broadcast Announced

Today is a very special day for mecha enthusiasts! After War Gundam X (Kidō Shinseiki Gundam X), which first met audiences in Japan on April 5, 1996, is officially celebrating its 30th anniversary today. To commemorate this significant milestone, an exciting "30th Anniversary Kickoff Visual" has been shared through the series' official channels. In the visual, the series' unforgettable protagonists, Garrod Ran and Tiffa Adill, are seen standing back-to-back in front of the moon motif that has become the symbol of the series.
The celebrations are not limited to just a visual; a broadcast full of nostalgia awaits the fans of the series. In a special live stream to be held on the official Gundam Channel, Wataru Takagi, who voices Garrod, and Mika Kanai, who brings Tiffa to life, will come together. In this special program, there will be conversations about the production process of the series, unforgettable memories, and its 30-year legacy. Additionally, reports indicate that Bandai will be re-releasing classic 1/100 scale High Grade (HG) model kits (Gunpla) such as Gundam X, X Divider, and Gundam Leopard specifically for this year.
Directed by Shinji Takamatsu, After War Gundam X holds a very distinct place in the Gundam universe. As the third major production of the "Alternate Universe" (AU) era of the 90s, the series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world turned into ruins by the falling of colonies to Earth, 15 years after the 7th Space War. Unlike other Gundam series, the production, which focuses more on themes of survival and hope rather than the destruction of war, is known for its iconic weapons like the Satellite Cannon and its unique interpretation of the "Newtype" concept.
In fact, the history of the series holds a somewhat bittersweet success story. Due to rating issues and changes in broadcast times during its original run, it was forced to conclude at episode 39, despite being planned for 50 episodes. However, over time, it gained a loyal fan base, especially thanks to the sincere relationship between Garrod and Tiffa and the series' peaceful message. Today, as part of the Gundam GWX 30th Anniversary Project (alongside G Gundam and Gundam Wing), the series continues to receive the recognition it deserves and is considered one of the most special gems of the mecha genre. In the coming months, more details are expected regarding new figure announcements and perhaps the long-awaited Blu-ray updates as part of these 30th-anniversary celebrations.
