Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou Gets an Anime in 2027: CloverWorks Steps Into the World of Mystery!

The long-awaited news for mystery and book lovers has finally arrived! It has been officially announced that the Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou (Antiquarian Bookshop Biblia Case Files) series, written by En Mikami and a massive phenomenon in Japan, will receive a television anime adaptation in 2027. Behind the project is the renowned animation studio CloverWorks, known for successful productions such as Spy x Family and Bocchi the Rock!. Along with this announcement, which has excited fans of the series, the first visual and a teaser trailer for the anime have been shared.
The director's chair for the anime will be occupied by Mamoru Kanbe, known for cult works such as The Promised Neverland and Elfen Lied. The voice cast for the lead roles has already been confirmed; Riko Akechi will bring to life the character of Shiori Shinokawa, the shy bookstore owner known for her deep knowledge of rare books. Shunsuke Takeuchi, an experienced voice actor, will voice Daisuke Goura, who helps Shiori despite a strange trauma that prevents him from reading books. This strong cast, combined with CloverWorks' visual quality, appears quite ambitious in reflecting the series' melancholic and intriguing atmosphere on screen.
Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou actually has a deep history. First published in 2011 under the Media Works Bunko label, the novel series has managed to sell over 7 million copies to date. Set in Kamakura, the story revolves around secrets surrounding old books and the mysterious pasts of their owners. Although the series was previously adapted into a live-action drama in 2013 and a feature film in 2018, fans have long been waiting for an anime adaptation that could fully reflect the aesthetic world of the story. En Mikami's detailed narrative and Hagu Koshijima's original illustrations were always seen as a perfect fit for the anime format.
This announcement coincides with a period where the "cozy mystery" genre is on the rise in the anime world. The long production process leading up to 2027 is interpreted as a sign of how much importance CloverWorks places on production quality. This production, where we will feel the scent of books and the mystery of old pages, seems likely to captivate not only anime fans but also literature enthusiasts. Further details regarding other character designs and the music team are expected to be shared in the coming months.
