AnimEigo to Release Antique Bakery, ReLIFE, and More on Home Video in 2027

AnimEigo announced that it will re-release five anime on home video in 2027. The company's plan includes Antique Bakery, Dog of Flanders: The Movie, ReLIFE, Ruin Explorers: Fam & Ihrie, and Welcome to Irabu's Office. AnimEigo also stated that the Dog of Flanders release will include Pioneer's uncut version.
Operating since 1988, AnimEigo is one of the first companies to popularize anime in the US with subtitled VHS tapes. The company, which brought many classic series to the home video market, particularly Bubblegum Crisis, has recently been in the spotlight for its Kickstarter-backed restoration projects. The inclusion of the youth classic ReLIFE and the '90s fantasy OVA Ruin Explorers in the 2027 lineup is especially noteworthy for collectors.
Looking at the content of the releases, Antique Bakery is based on Fumi Yoshinaga's manga published between 1999 and 2002. The 12-episode anime adaptation by Nippon Animation aired on Fuji TV's Noitamina block in 2008. ReLIFE, on the other hand, is a 2016 animated series by TMS Entertainment based on Yayoiso's web manga serialized on Comico; its final episodes were released as an OVA in 2018. Dog of Flanders: The Movie is a theatrical film by Nippon Animation inspired by Ouida's classic novel, telling the story of Nello and his dog Patrasche. Welcome to Irabu's Office, adapted from Hideo Okuda's works, is one of the experimental productions remembered as a surreal psychiatric comedy by Toei Animation and director Kenji Nakamura.
AnimEigo's 2027 slate creates a significant collecting opportunity, especially for fans with out-of-print DVDs. The inclusion of Pioneer's uncut version of Dog of Flanders will also attract viewers who have previously encountered cut or re-edited versions of the film. In the coming months, exact release dates, special extras, and possible boxed editions are expected to be confirmed.
