Japan's First 'Cinema Theater Awards' Held: Demon Slayer and Detective Conan Take Center Stage

Japan's capital, Tokyo, hosted a brand-new awards ceremony that brought together the worlds of anime and cinema. Held on May 12th at 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, the 1st Cinema Theater Awards (Dai-ikkai Eigakan Taisho) were organized to honor the contributions of cinema staff and loyal viewers to the industry. The names that left their mark on the event were the stars of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Detective Conan series.
Organized by the "Let's Go to the Cinema!" Executive Committee, this special night saw Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle Arc - Chapter 1: The Return of Akaza (Infinity Castle Arc - Chapter 1: The Return of Akaza) awarded the title of "Best Anime to Watch in Theaters." Hiro Shimono, the voice actor for Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Saori Hayami, who brings Shinobu Kocho to life, took the stage to accept the award and shared emotional moments. Hiro Shimono stated that fans watching a film multiple times (repeaters) are their greatest motivation, adding, "The massive screen and sound system in a cinema theater are the perfect place to feel the soul of animation."
Another big winner of the night was Japan's legendary mystery series Detective Conan. The 29th film of the series, Detective Conan: Highway no Datenshi (Fallen Angel of the Highway), won the "Staff Choice: Best Japanese Film" award as the favorite of cinema theater employees. Producer Yuhei Okada and the iconic Conan mascot, who attended the ceremony, expressed their gratitude to the cinema workers. The significance of this award lies in the fact that it was determined by more than 3,000 staff members who work in theaters and interact with audiences face-to-face every day.
