Jūra's Controversial Manga 'Kanojo no Tomodachi' Gets Anime in 2026!

Jūra's highly popular manga 'Kanojo no Tomodachi' (My Girlfriend's Friend), written and illustrated by Jūra, will be adapted into a TV anime series in 2026. This anticipated adaptation will bring to the screen the complex and morally controversial story that unfolds as high school student Takeru Hidaka is seduced by Tomoko Yoshioka, his girlfriend Kaori Koga's best friend, while his relationship with Kaori is ongoing.
The anime series will be produced by Deregula, an imprint of WWWave Corporation, known for its experience in adult-themed productions. Deregula was established in 2023 with the aim of adapting intellectual properties from other companies and is no stranger to such mature content. This situation increases fans' curiosity about how the 'immoral' and 'ecchi' elements from the manga will be reflected in the anime. The announcement was also supported by a special celebratory illustration shared by mangaka Jūra on their social media accounts.
The 'Kanojo no Tomodachi' manga first began serialization on May 21, 2021, on Kodansha's YanMaga Web online service. The series is also available on platforms such as Comic Days and Magazine Pocket. This manga, Jūra's first commercially published work, brought the artist's talent, previously known for adult doujin works, to a wider audience. With six tankōbon volumes released as of October 2025, the series achieved great sales success with over 800,000 copies by November 2024. From its first day of publication, the manga received intense interest from readers, and after the release of its first volume, it quickly sold out and went into reprint due to its themes of 'immorality and excitement'.
