McDonald's and Gundam Collaboration: New Commercial Film from Sunrise Arrives!

McDonald's Japan has excited fans by signing a massive collaboration with the iconic Mobile Suit Gundam series. As part of this special campaign, new commercial films prepared by the legendary animation studio Sunrise (now known as Bandai Namco Filmworks), the original producer of the series, have begun to air. At the heart of the collaboration is the RX-78-2 Gundam Chicken Tatsuta Custom menu, inspired by the series' most famous robot, the RX-78-2 Gundam.
The "Chicken Tatsuta" burger, a classic eagerly awaited every spring in Japan at McDonald's, now carries the spirit of the famous rivalry between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. Hearing the iconic lines from the original voice actors while ordering the burger in the commercials further intensifies the winds of nostalgia. In particular, the RX-78-2 Gundam Chicken Tatsuta Custom aims to offer a special gastronomic experience to fans of the series with its ginger and soy sauce-flavored chicken.
Created in 1979 by Yoshiyuki Tomino, Mobile Suit Gundam revolutionized the anime world as the pioneer of the "Real Robot" genre. McDonald's Japan has previously engaged in similar collaborations with major franchises such as One Piece, Spy x Family, and Detective Conan. However, the direct involvement of the Sunrise studio and the presentation of the commercials with high-quality animation elevate this campaign from mere advertisements into short visual feasts.
Such collaborations prove once again how inseparable anime culture is from daily life in Japan. Fans not only get to try a new burger but also get the chance to see their favorite characters again in a modern production. While the campaign is expected to be available for a limited time, it is noted that specially designed packaging and Gundam-themed trays will also be available in restaurants for collectors.
