The Finale of the Mononoke Film Trilogy Approaches: Exciting New Trailer Released for Hebiyami

Mononoke, one of the most unique visual styles in the anime world, is preparing to crown its journey on the big screen with a magnificent finale. The latest trailer released for Gekijōban Mononoke: Daisanshō - Hebiyami (Snake Woman), the final installment of the planned trilogy, has created a great stir among fans. The film, which will be released in theaters in Japan on May 29, 2026, will allow us to witness the toughest test yet for our mysterious hero, the Medicine Seller (Kusuriuri).
The most striking detail in the newly released trailer is that the Medicine Seller, whom we have always known for his calmness and composure, raises his voice and shouts for the first time. This emotional outburst from the character, voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya, signals just how formidable an opponent the mononoke named Hebiyami is. The story takes place in the depths of Ooku, the women's quarters of Edo Castle, and brings to light dark secrets dating back 150 years. The trailer also includes the first glimpses of the childhood versions of the characters Tenshi and Hokuto Mizorogi.
This film project was born as part of the 15th-anniversary celebrations of the original Mononoke TV series, which was released in 2007 and became a cult classic. The series' creator and director, Kenji Nakamura, explores the universe of the Medicine Seller from a much broader perspective with this trilogy. As you may recall, the first film of the series, Karakasa, met with audiences in July 2024, and the second film, Hinezumi, in March 2025. Produced by Studio EOTA, the production combines the traditional Japanese art style of Ukiyo-e with modern animation techniques.
