New Ghost in the Shell Anime by Science SARU Premieres July 7: Here Is the New Trailer and Details

One of the cornerstones of the cyberpunk genre, Ghost in the Shell (Kōkaku Kidōtai), is preparing to return to screens with a brand-new television anime. The official premiere date for the project, undertaken by the Science SARU studio, has been announced as July 7, 2026. The third trailer and new key visual shared with the announcement provide important clues about the series' aesthetic direction and atmosphere. This new adaptation will revisit the adventures of Major Motoko Kusanagi and the Public Security Section 9 team with a modern animation vision.
The studio behind this project, Science SARU, has carved out a unique place for itself in the industry in recent years with works such as Devilman Crybaby, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. The series is directed by Mokochan, known for the Dan Da Dan project, while the screenplay is written by Godzilla Singular Point writer EnJoe Toh. Character designs bear the signature of Shuhei Handa. The studio's recent acquisition by TOHO has significantly raised expectations regarding the production quality of this large-scale project.
The Ghost in the Shell universe first entered our lives with the manga created by Masamune Shirow in 1989. The cult film directed by Mamoru Oshii in 1995 and the subsequent Stand Alone Complex series deeply influenced the science fiction world with the philosophical questions they raised about artificial intelligence and human consciousness. Unlike previous adaptations, this new version by Science SARU adopts a more vibrant visual style that remains faithful to the original manga and reflects the 90s aesthetic.
