Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave) Gets Third Season Approval
The third season of the anime Chained Soldier (originally titled Mato Seihei no Slave in Japanese) has been officially confirmed. The announcement came after the series' 12-episode second season premiered on January 8. Thus, it has been confirmed that the anime adaptation produced by Seven Arcs studio will continue.
The series is authored by Takahiro and Yohei Takemura. Takahiro is an experienced writer known for the Akame ga Kill! story, while Takemura gives the story a visual identity with his illustrations. The manga has been published on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform since 2019. The story centers on the Demon Defense Force, which fights monsters called Shuuki that come from a parallel dimension named Mato, and a high school student, Yuuki Wakura, who joins this force. As a result of an agreement with the force's senior commander, Kyouka Uzen, Yuuki becomes her 'slave' and gains extraordinary powers through this bond, adding a dynamism full of both action and romance to the series.
The first season of the anime adaptation began airing on January 4, 2024 and ran for 12 episodes. The second season was also prepared as 12 episodes and started airing on January 8. The release date, cast, and platform details for the third season have not been disclosed yet. It is expected that Junji Nishimura, who directed the first season, and the screenwriting team will continue their contributions to the project. Meanwhile, the series' original publisher, Shueisha, continues to support the series on the manga side.
The third season approval shows that Chained Soldier has reached a strong audience in the anime industry, where many manga adaptations end up with only one season. Particularly the fast-paced action scenes and the controversial 'slave' power system set the series a step ahead of other shōnen productions.
