GOLAN Unit Takes Shape in New Fist of the North Star Anime: Jirō Saitō Joins the Cast

The legendary martial arts series Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken) continues to strengthen its cast as it returns to the modern anime world. It has been announced that veteran voice actor Jirō Saitō has joined the cast to voice Mad Sarge, the terrifying drill sergeant and second-in-command of the GOLAN unit, in the new anime adaptation prepared in honor of the series' 40th anniversary. Saitō will make his debut as the character in the sixth episode, which will air this Friday.
Jirō Saitō has a highly respected career in the anime world. Having recently garnered great acclaim for his roles as Denken in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and Theo Magath in Attack on Titan, the artist is no stranger to the harsh atmosphere of the Fist of the North Star universe. The Mad Sarge character he will voice is known as one of the toughest opponents Kenshiro has faced, thanks to his mastery of knife-fighting and his ability to stab ten times per second. The character's discipline and ruthlessness within this paramilitary organization established after the nuclear apocalypse will come to life with Saitō's characteristic voice.
This new project, brought to life in collaboration with Warner Bros. Japan and TMS Entertainment, aims to remain faithful to the spirit of the original manga created by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. Premiering on April 10, 2026, the series uses modern CGI technology to bring the iconic aesthetics of the 1980s to the present day. The production, which features Shunsuke Takeuchi as the voice of Kenshiro, tells the story of seven scarred men chasing justice in a world turned to ruins after a nuclear war. While Hiroshi Maeda sits in the director's chair, the music is composed by Yuki Hayashi, known for his work on My Hero Academia.
For fans, this new adaptation offers the opportunity to see the series' savage nature and emotional depth with current visual standards. As the GOLAN arc begins, the intensity of the action is expected to rise, and the inclusion of talented names like Jirō Saitō increases confidence in the quality of the production. The series, which can be watched worldwide via Amazon Prime Video, continues to keep both old fans and those newly introduced to the Hokuto Shinken legend glued to their screens. Who will voice Kenshiro's other iconic rivals in the coming episodes has already become a subject of great curiosity.
