Opanchu Usagi and Npochamu Become 3D Anime: "Kawaisouni! Gekijo" Starts Very Soon!

The internet world's most popular and known as the "rabbit of sorrows," Opanchu Usagi, and the yogurt fairy Npochamu are preparing to meet their fans in 3D anime format. This new series, titled Kawaisouni! Gekijo (Kawaisouni! Theater), will be broadcast as part of ZIP!, one of Japan's most-watched morning programs. The production, which will reach a national audience via Nippon TV, is based on original scripts and drafts written personally by the famous illustrator Kawaisouni!, the creator of the characters.
This project crowns the massive success of Opanchu Usagi, who has become a phenomenon especially among Gen Z. Known for its pink color and large eyes that look like they are about to cry at any moment, this rabbit was chosen as the "most popular character" in surveys conducted among young girls in Japan in 2024 and 2025. The character's style, referred to as fubin-kawaii (pitiful but cute), is built on the premise that no matter how hard it tries to do good, it always ends up facing misfortunes. Npochamu, who will accompany it in the series, is known for its innocence and absurd adventures with its loyal friend Kimimaro.
The technical team behind the animation is also quite remarkable. The series is produced by Marza Animation Planet, which was born from SEGA's CG department and has produced successful works such as Tabekko Doubutsu THE MOVIE. In the first promotional video (PV) released, Opanchu Usagi's funny failures in a plush toy machine already prove how vivid the 3D visuals will be. Creator Kawaisouni! stated in an announcement that the new 3D textures add an "incredible cuteness and approachability" to the characters and shared the good news that the voice cast has done a great job.
The surprises for fans are not limited to this; special clips from the 3D animation will be presented to visitors for the first time at the "Iwai Heiten! Kawaisouni! Department" exhibition, which will begin in Yokohama on April 25, 2026. This anime adaptation once again demonstrates the power of social media characters in transitioning to mainstream media. These short episodes, which will be broadcast during the morning slot of the ZIP! program, are expected to appeal to both children and adults who want to smile a little before heading to work. Details such as the voice cast and the exact broadcast date are planned to be announced in the coming days.
