A Giant Step from Piccoma: "The Viridescent Crown" and 5 Popular Series Become Short Anime!

The giant of the digital comic world, Piccoma (Kakao Piccoma), is making a revolutionary innovation on its platform. According to the official announcement, a brand new category named "ANIME" will be opened within the application at the end of May. The first fruits of this new section will be short anime adaptations of six different works, including The Viridescent Crown (Ryokuin no Kanmuri), which has a large fan base worldwide. While a special preview event is currently being held for app users, the transition to the full version is expected to take place in the final days of May.
The flagship of this project, The Viridescent Crown, is based on a popular web novel originally written by Siya and illustrated by Binba. The story follows a young woman who wakes up as the character Ran Rome de Lachia in the world of a novel she wrote herself, as she strives to save her family and beloved characters from tragic ends. This Smartoon (Piccoma's vertical comic format) in the fantasy romance genre stands out as one of the most read and beloved works on the platform. The short anime format aims to offer fans a brand new experience by combining the visual aesthetics of this enchanting world with animated scenes.
From an industry perspective, this move by Piccoma fits perfectly with the fast-consumption trend known as "snack culture." The short anime (tanshaku anime) format usually consists of episodes ranging from 1 to 5 minutes and is designed to be watched quickly, especially on mobile devices. Piccoma, under Kakao Entertainment, continues to blur the lines between webtoons and anime with such projects to consolidate its leadership in the Japanese market. This model not only satisfies existing fans but also serves as an effective advertising tool to introduce the series to wider audiences.
This new initiative by Piccoma is also proof that webtoon-based content will turn into more multimedia projects in the future. In addition to high-budget, full-length anime projects like Solo Leveling, these types of short and dynamic adaptations increase the platform's content diversity. With the official launch at the end of May, fans will be able to find out which the other five mysterious series are and will have the chance to watch their favorite characters with sound and motion for the first time. This development once again demonstrates how the digital publishing and animation industries are becoming more integrated.
