A New Era in Yusha no Kuzu Anime: A Surprise from Tomokazu Sugita and ClariS!

One of the most notable productions in the anime world this year, Yusha no Kuzu (Scum of the Brave), is back with new updates that will excite viewers. The third main promotional video (PV) and the second key visual shared through the series' official channels shed light on the deepening atmosphere of the story. The biggest surprise is the master names added to the voice cast and the series' new musical identity.
According to the official announcement, legendary voice actors Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki from Gintama) and the talented artist Ayumu Murase (Hinata from Haikyuu!!) have joined the cast. Although it remains a mystery which characters they will bring to life, the presence of these two names seems set to take the quality of the series to the next level. Additionally, the theme songs for the new season of the anime have been announced; the opening and ending tracks will be performed by the popular duo ClariS and the rock band w.o.d. This change also heralds developments in the tone of the series following the first half that began in January.
Written by Rocket Shokai and brought to life with illustrations by Nakashima 723, Yusha no Kuzu takes place in a corrupted 21st-century Tokyo where heroism has become a profession. The story centers on Yashiro, a former hero drowning in debt and known by the nickname "Shinigami" (Grim Reaper). In this dark world where mafia leaders turn into "Demon Kings," things get complicated when Yashiro begins mentoring three young girls for money. The production, which turns classic hero stories upside down, has quickly been described as a "hidden gem" among fans of the genre with its hard-hitting action scenes and dark humor.
The anime, produced by studio OLM (Team Hikita) and directed by Shinji Ushiro, premiered on Nippon TV on January 10, 2026. These new updates for the series, which is planned for two cours (approximately 24 episodes), serve as a major preparation for the second half starting in April. Supported by the impressive music of Kenichiro Suehiro, the production will continue to make a name for itself in the coming weeks with its profound screenplay that questions the corruption in modern society and the commodification of the concept of heroism.
