New Cast News and Release Date Leak for Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You Anime!

Expected news has started to arrive for fans of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (Super no Ura de Yani Sū Futari). While the production team of the anime adaptation announced that four new names have joined the cast, a list that appeared briefly on the Japanese streaming platform Abema suggests that the series could meet the audience in early June. According to this leak, a limited preview of the series could take place on June 3rd.
The newly announced voice cast includes experienced names in the industry. Toa Yukinari will voice (Gotō), Megumi Toyoguchi (Ōno), Rikuya Yasuda (Obata), and Yōko Hikasa (Maezawa). These names will accompany the previously announced leads Takuya Satō (Sasaki) and Seena Hoshiki (Yamada/Tayama). There was much curiosity about how the unique chemistry between Sasaki and Tayama would be conveyed by the voice actors; with the new additions, the cast has become quite ambitious.
The series, created by Jinushi, actually has a very interesting success story. Starting as a webcomic on Twitter (X) in 2022, the work became a phenomenon by receiving millions of likes in a short time. Winning first place in the web category of the 2022 Next Manga Awards (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō), the work was then serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine. The story follows Sasaki, a 45-year-old tired businessman, who finds peace in the smile of a supermarket employee named Yamada, and subsequently meets Tayama, a cool girl, in the smoking area behind the supermarket.
The technical side of the anime is handled by the Asahi Production studio. The director's chair is shared by Tadato Suzuki and Aoi Mori, while the series' music is entrusted to Shin Kono and Sayaka Aoki. Additionally, the opening theme of the series will be performed by the popular group ZUTOMAYO, and the ending theme "Fiction" will be performed by imase. According to official information, the anime, which is planned to air on the TBS channel in July 2026, is a candidate to be one of the most talked-about productions of this summer with its "healing" (iyashikei) atmosphere that focuses on the daily lives of adult characters and the intimate bond between them.
