Unison Square Garden Takes a Break from Music: Drummer Takao Suzuki Leaves the Band

Unison Square Garden, one of the most energetic and technically impressive bands in the anime world, is making headlines with news that has saddened their fans. Following the decision of the band's talented drummer Takao Suzuki to leave, the group has decided to suspend their activities for an indefinite period. Suzuki will officially leave the band after his final performance on July 15, and the group will enter a period of silence from that date onwards.
Formed in Saitama in 2004 and having celebrated their 20th anniversary last year, the band is known for the deep mark they have left on the anime world. The group, which became a worldwide phenomenon with "Sugar Song to Bitter Step", the ending theme for the anime Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront), recently topped the charts with "Chaos ga Kiwamaru", the opening song for Blue Lock. With iconic songs provided for productions such as Tiger & Bunny, Soul Eater, and Welcome to the Ballroom, they became one of the strongest representatives of the J-Rock genre in the anime industry.
Takao Suzuki's departure creates major question marks regarding the future of the band's unique, fast, and complex rhythmic structure. Suzuki's technical drumming, combined with bassist Tomoya Tabuchi's energetic stage presence and vocalist Kosuke Saito's unique voice, was the band's signature. The official statement noted that the decision to "suspend activities" was made because it is not yet clear what path the band will follow after this departure. This means the band has not completely disbanded but will remain silent until they draw up a new roadmap.
This development represents a major void for the band's loyal fan base. The absence of the band will be deeply felt in the music for future seasons of series that are at the peak of their popularity, such as Blue Lock. While the farewell concert on July 15 symbolizes the end of an era, fans hope that this break is not a permanent separation but an opportunity for the band to return with new energy. Whether this giant of the J-Rock scene will return in the future with a new drummer or in a different format is already a matter of curiosity.
