Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Delayed to 2027

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement brings bad news: Koji Igarashi's highly anticipated new metroidvania game, despite initially being planned for release this year, has been delayed to 2027. According to Anime News Network's report dated August 26, 2026, the game's PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions will now keep fans waiting at least another year.
Looking at the series' history, this delay can actually be read as a quality guarantee rather than a disappointment. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night achieved great success on Kickstarter in 2015, raising over $5.5 million. Released in 2019, the game successfully continued the modern metroidvania tradition established by Igarashi with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, earning high scores from both critics and players. This universe, developed by ArtPlay, was now preparing for a new adventure with The Scarlet Engagement.
For Igarashi, this project represents not just a sequel but also a return to the genre's roots. As with Ritual of the Night, players are known to expect a balance of exploration, action, and a deep story. The fact that The Scarlet Engagement is being developed specifically for next-generation platforms like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S signals that it could push the series even further in terms of visuals and mechanics. The decision to delay is thought to give the development team extra time to meet these expectations.
So far, no new release date or screenshots for the game have been shared. However, fans hope to see more concrete promotion and gameplay footage within the 2027 window. The Bloodstained community will have to be patient once again; but looking at Igarashi's past work, it can be considered almost certain that the final product will more than meet expectations.
