Crunchyroll Launches Anime Streaming in BMW and Mini Vehicles with FORVIA Partnership

Crunchyroll, continuing to expand into new areas as one of the primary streaming platforms for millions of anime fans worldwide, will now be watchable in BMW and Mini vehicles through the Appning by FORVIA platform, as part of a partnership signed with automotive technology supplier FORVIA. This will allow users to access the Crunchyroll catalog on the infotainment screens of compatible vehicles. The arrival of anime content directly in cars is considered a significant part of the "anime on every screen" vision in the streaming world.
This move by Crunchyroll demonstrates that the platform is not confined to televisions and mobile devices. The platform, which Sony acquired for approximately $1.18 billion in 2021, had announced that it reached over 100 million registered users in 2024. The company, which has transformed anime into a global cultural industry, is now extending into the automotive sector. Through the FORVIA partnership, in-car entertainment systems are becoming one of Crunchyroll's new target screens.
FORVIA, on the other hand, is a giant automotive supplier that emerged from the merger of Faurecia and Hella in 2022. Appning is a platform developed by this company for in-car applications, enabling third-party digital services to be securely integrated into vehicles. Crunchyroll will also be featured on select BMW and Mini models through this platform. Thus, both Crunchyroll and FORVIA are entering into a win-win collaboration in personalizing the in-car experience and bringing entertainment to new places.
Which BMW and Mini models will be compatible with the app and in which countries the launch will begin have not yet been announced. However, this development can also be considered a turning point for the anime industry. Traditionally watched on home screens and mobile devices, anime is now spreading to the places where people travel. Such partnerships are expected to become even more widespread, especially at a time when content consumption is gaining importance in autonomous driving and electric vehicle ecosystems.
This journey that Crunchyroll has started with BMW and Mini may open up to different car brands in the future. FORVIA's Appning platform model has a structure that aims to work with multiple OEMs. It seems quite soon that anime fans will be able to watch their favorite series in their parked cars. As new details and the list of countries become clear, the scope of this collaboration will be followed by a wider anime community.
