Digimon Series Reaches Record Profit: Peak of Original Anime Era Left Behind

The Digimon series, owned by Bandai Namco, has reached its highest profit level in history according to the company's latest financial reports. According to data reported by Anime Corner, this level has also surpassed the series' peak during the original anime era. The brand, born in 1997 with the virtual pet Digital Monster and turned into a global phenomenon in 1999 with Digimon Adventure, has thus marked a new financial milestone.
Digimon's previous peak dated back to the era of Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02 covering 1999-2000. These anime produced by Toei Animation created a huge commercial ecosystem not just as a TV series, but with toys, cards, and movies. However, the wave of popularity receded towards the mid-2000s, and Digimon relied for a long time on the loyalty of a smaller fan base. The new record clearly demonstrates the brand's current strength after this turbulent history.
The biggest architect of this rise was Bandai Namco's restructuring under its IP Axis strategy. The Digimon Card Game, released in 2020, gained a large player base through tournament culture in both Japan and the West. While Digimon Adventure: starting the same year and the subsequent Digimon Ghost Game kept interest alive on the anime front, nostalgia-focused products like the Digimon Survive game and Digital Monster Color brought different generations together. On the manga front, web manga projects like Digimon Liberator created a new readership that expands the card game universe through the language of comics. The film Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning, released on October 27, 2023, became the cinematic counterpart of this nostalgia wave.
The financial record is also an important indicator of Digimon's position in the anime industry. Although it may seem more modest compared to brands that generate massive revenue every year like Dragon Ball or One Piece, Digimon has achieved steady growth with its unique digital universe and the fan base it has carried from the past to the present. This momentum is expected to continue in the coming period; the Digimon Story: Time Stranger game announced by Bandai Namco in 2025 and regularly released card game expansion packs are among the most concrete steps fans will follow. For Digimon, the record is not just a reflection of the past, but also a signal of investment for the future.
