Exstetra HD Remaster Comes to Switch, Switch 2, and PS5 on September 3

FuRyu's classic role-playing game EXSTETRA has met players on PC with its HD remaster version. According to Anime News Network, the game was released on Steam on July 30, 2026; the release for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5 will take place on September 3, 2026.

EXSTETRA was first released exclusively for Nintendo 3DS in Japan in 2013. Developed by FuRyu, the title became one of the names well-known to JRPG fans for its turn-based battle system and character-driven narrative. However, an official Western release of the original game was never made, leaving Exstetra a Japan-only experience for years.

With the HD remaster, the game is noted to feature high-resolution visuals and modern gameplay improvements. PC players can experience the game via Steam from launch day. On September 3, both current and next-generation Nintendo consoles and PlayStation 5 users will be able to access the game. The release of the Switch 2 version on the same day, in particular, contributes to Nintendo's process of building a strong JRPG library for its next-generation console.

This title from FuRyu's archive has also sparked a ray of hope for many JRPGs that remained limited during the 3DS era.
