Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Shuts Down on October 6

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will cease service on all platforms on October 6, 2026. According to Anime News Network, the game, which was released for mobile devices in September 2023 and for PC via Steam in December 2023, is closing after a run of approximately three years.
Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis was a mobile gacha game that retold the classic Final Fantasy VII universe from start to finish. In addition to the original game, it featured side stories such as Crisis Core and Advent Children with modern graphics and a turn-based combat system. The free-to-play title received significant attention at launch but struggled to retain its player base over time due to its gacha mechanics and repetitive content.
This closure marks the end of another era in Square Enix's mobile game portfolio. The company had previously shut down titles such as Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier (2023) and Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road (2024). The closure of Ever Crisis appears to align with Square Enix's strategy of shifting toward more profitable and sustainable models on the mobile side. The game's development team plans to offer a final event package to allow players to use their remaining resources during the time left.
All microtransactions and premium currency sales for the game will be halted leading up to the closing date. Players will be able to spend their accumulated crystals and items until October 6, but Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will become completely unplayable once the servers are shut down. Square Enix currently has no plans to convert the game into an offline version.
For Final Fantasy fans, this news serves as another reminder of the fragility of the mobile gaming ecosystem and raises questions about the preservation of the Final Fantasy VII universe's digital legacy. Nevertheless, the main story of the series remains safe thanks to the original game, the remake series, and re-released versions. There is still time for those who want to log in one last time and refresh their memories before Ever Crisis closes.
