Golden Week Wind in Japanese Sales Charts: Tomodachi Life Refuses to Leave the Top!

The excitement of Golden Week is being felt in Japan's most prestigious game sales charts. According to data covering the period from April 27 to May 3, 2026, Nintendo's social simulation giant Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has managed to maintain its number one spot for the third consecutive week. Boosting its sales due to the holiday period, the title has surpassed the 1 million mark in physical copies sold across Japan, moving confidently toward becoming the best-selling game of 2026.
The most notable new entry on the list is SAROS, which debuted at seventh place. Developed by Housemarque, the award-winning developer of Returnal, and released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on April 30, SAROS has managed to capture players' interest with its blend of action and roguelite elements. Starring famous actor Rahul Kohli, the game has also received full marks from critics for its fluid gameplay mechanics, which the developer calls "bullet ballet."
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is the first major title to bring the series to modern consoles following the original game released for the 3DS in 2013. Released simultaneously for Nintendo Switch and the next-generation Switch 2 on April 16, 2026, the game has expanded its fanbase with innovations such as inclusivity in character customization options and support for same-sex relationships. Series creator Yoshio Sakamoto states that this new game surpasses the technical limitations of the 3DS, offering a much more vibrant island ecosystem.
