Live-Action Summer of You Series Announces Five New Cast Members

The live-action series based on Nagisa Furuya's Summer of You (known in Japanese as Kimi no Natsu) has added five new cast members. According to Anime News Network, Sōjirō Yoshimura, Shōta Hirakawa, Ren Komai, Shūta Imai, and Hiroto Ōshita have joined the project. It has not been announced yet which characters they will portray, but they are expected to take on important supporting roles alongside the main cast.
Summer of You is a BL (Boys Love) manga originally serialized in Cheri+ magazine from 2015 to 2017. The story depicts the slowly blooming relationship between two contrasting young people – the quiet and introverted Ryo and the outgoing and popular Haruki. With Nagisa Furuya's simple yet emotional storytelling and realistic character designs, the manga has gained a loyal fanbase both in Japan and internationally. It was previously adapted into a live-action film in 2024, and now a television series adaptation has been announced.
The addition of new cast members indicates that production of the series is progressing rapidly. With the main lead actors already announced in previous months, and given the increasing interest in the BL genre on Japanese television in recent years, it can be said that Summer of You is being met with great anticipation. While there is no official information yet about the director and screenwriter, it is speculated that the production company is a studio known for previous Cheri+ adaptations.
This news is an exciting development for fans of Summer of You. Those who loved the series from the 2024 film will now have the chance to watch a more in-depth adaptation in series format. With the BL genre gaining more mainstream presence and an emotional story like Summer of You being brought to live-action, it will be a must-watch for both manga readers and drama enthusiasts. More details about the release date and full cast are expected to be announced in the coming months.
