A New Era for the Metal Gear Solid Movie: Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein Take the Director's Chair

A concrete step has finally been taken in the big-screen journey of Metal Gear Solid, one of the most iconic series in the gaming world. Sony Pictures has entrusted the director's chair to the duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein for the project, which has long seemed trapped in "development hell." According to information shared by The Hollywood Reporter, this move signals that the project will continue with a completely renewed vision.
The duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein recently drew attention with the 2025 hit film Final Destination: Bloodlines. Having signed an extensive "first-look" deal with Sony, the directors will bring this massive project to life through their own production company, Wonderlab. In a joint statement, the pair said, "Metal Gear Solid is a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that changed video games forever. We are honored to bring Hideo Kojima's iconic characters and unforgettable world to life."
This new development also makes it official that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island), who had been at the helm of the project for nearly a decade, is no longer in the director's chair. The status of Oscar Isaac, who was announced as being cast in the role of Solid Snake in 2020, remains uncertain. While some sources claim the famous actor has left the project, it is expected that the cast will be completely renewed alongside the change in directors. The film continues to be produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad, known for adaptations such as Uncharted and The Legend of Zelda.
The Metal Gear Solid series has become one of the most important brands in gaming history, selling over 65 million units since its debut in 1987. The first Metal Gear Solid game, released for the PlayStation in 1998, fundamentally changed the stealth genre and storytelling in games. The commercial success of the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake, released in 2025, also explains why Sony has accelerated this project once again. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see what kind of visuals this legend, which blends espionage and political drama with science fiction, will have on the big screen.
