Sega Establishes Subsidiary in Shanghai to Strengthen Chinese Market

Sega has established a new subsidiary in Shanghai to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market. According to Anime News Network, the company will focus on promoting its intellectual properties and marketing activities in the region through this office. The move demonstrates Sega's desire to manage its operations in China locally.
Founded in 1960 and long known as a game console manufacturer, Sega is today a global publisher recognized for series such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Like a Dragon. It is not surprising that the company wants to grow these brands in one of the world's largest gaming markets like China. In particular, the Persona series under Atlus also has anime adaptations, which suggests that the office may not be limited to the gaming side alone.
In China, it can take a long time for foreign game companies to obtain publishing licenses. This structure established in Shanghai will allow Sega to more closely monitor local regulations and collaborate with Chinese partners. Given the global success of the Sonic films and the fan base of the Persona series, the company's licensing and mobile game projects in China could also gain momentum.
It has not yet been announced which projects the new subsidiary will start with and its official name. However, this development stands out as part of the strategy of Japanese gaming giants to invest directly in the Chinese market. Sega fans can expect China-specific announcements from the Shanghai office in the coming months.
