Atsuko Hanaki's New Manga "Garakuta Wonder House" Begins in Monthly Flowers Magazine

A beloved name in the manga world, Atsuko Hanaki, has returned to readers with her new series Garakuta Wonder House (ガラクタワンダーハウス). Debuting in the August issue of Monthly Flowers magazine, released on June 26, 2026, the series presents a story built on inheritance and family ties. This new journey, beginning with Hanaki's unique emotional narrative, has already created great excitement among fans of the josei genre.
At the center of the series is Nina (新奈), who cut all ties with her biological father following her parents' divorce. Upon her father's passing, Nina finds herself the heir to a house worth approximately 30 million yen, but one completely filled with "junk" (garakuta). While considering rejecting the inheritance, the young woman decides to visit the house one last time, where she meets a mysterious young man named Shima (志摩) who lives next door and holds secrets about her father's past. The story is described as a human comedy that sprouts from among the items inside this old house.
Atsuko Hanaki is known in the manga industry for her character-driven works that highlight human emotions. Debuting in 2014 with Mikansei no Hokago in Zokan Flowers magazine, the artist has since produced notable works such as Kanojo no Iru Mise and Umi no Soko no Alice. Hanaki's storytelling is known for addressing the complex emotions of everyday life in a simple yet impressive language, and this new series once again showcases the artist's mastery.
The Monthly Flowers magazine, where the new series is published, is published by Shogakukan and is considered one of the most prestigious venues in the world of josei (manga for adult women). Home to masterpieces such as 7SEEDS, Kids on the Slope, and the recent popular series Don't Call It Mystery (Mystery to Iu Nakare), the magazine aims to add new depth to its library with Garakuta Wonder House. This issue of the magazine was also presented to readers with special color pages to celebrate the start of the series.
The theme that inherited items are not just a physical burden but also a reflection of the past is a subject frequently explored in modern Japanese narratives. Garakuta Wonder House promises readers not just a story of cleaning up, but also a process of a woman rediscovering her father—whom she never truly knew—through the "items" he left behind. How the relationship between Nina and Shima will develop and what kind of memories will emerge from inside that old house are among the elements eagerly awaited in the upcoming chapters of the series.
