New Manga from the Creators of Chojo and David: Ura no Report Arrives on August 31
Super Psychic Policeman Chojo and Teenage Renaissance! David are joining forces. The new series by Shun Numa and Yūshin Kuroki, Ura no Report, will begin on August 31. The series is described as a youth romantic comedy and will be published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
The division of duties for the new manga has also been clarified. Shun Numa will write the story, while the artwork is entrusted to Yūshin Kuroki. Both names are known in Weekly Shonen Jump for their unique absurd humor. Numa's comedy Chojo, which blends detective and psychic powers, began serialization in the magazine in 2024 and quickly built a unique fanbase. Kuroki's Teenage Renaissance! David, which tells the love life of a statue-like muscular high school student, was published between 2018 and 2019 and drew attention with its unconventional art style and physical comedy.
The duo coming together is not a surprise for Jump readers, but it is a very exciting development. Both manga artists are considered among the strongest representatives of Jump's "gag manga" tradition in recent years. Numa, in particular, is a name who won awards in competitions organized by Shueisha with his one-shots before Chojo. Kuroki, on the other hand, remained active in the magazine after David with various one-shots and illustration work. Now, it is a matter of curiosity how Ura no Report, a combination of two different comedy sensibilities, will bring an absurd twist to a classic high school romantic comedy.
It has also become clear exactly which issue Ura no Report will start in. The manga will debut in Weekly Shonen Jump 2026 issue 40, to be released on August 31, 2026. Shueisha has not yet shared a detailed summary or character visuals about the series, but the inclusion of the word "ura" (reverse side / hidden) in the title has led to speculation that the story may take shape around a secret report or gossip theme unfolding behind the scenes at school. Official promotional images and a preview of the first chapter are expected to be shared in the coming days via Shonen Jump's official X (formerly Twitter) account and Shueisha's press releases.
So what does this mean? Recently, with series like WITCH WATCH and Akane-banashi approaching their finals in Weekly Shonen Jump, a significant gap has formed in the magazine for a new generation of comedy and romance series. Ura no Report is one of the strongest candidates expected to fill this gap. If the series manages to catch on, we may continue to see the duo of Numa and Kuroki in a long-term collaboration. All eyes will now be on the first chapter to be published on August 31.
