Black Channel Manga Moves to Weekly Digital Platform: New Chapter Date Announced

The Black Channel manga, written by Satoshi Kisaichi and boasting a large fan base, is undergoing a major change in its publication format. According to an announcement in the May issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Coro Coro Comic magazine, the series will now meet readers on the online platform Weekly Coro Coro Comic instead of the printed magazine. Following this digital transition, the first new chapter is scheduled to be released on May 17.
Starting its publication life in 2020, Black Channel features a unique story that blends the digital culture of the modern world with supernatural elements. The series follows the adventures of Black, a demon YouTuber who tries to produce the "most real" content by filming people's secret desires and dark sides, and his loyal assistant Camera-chan. The series, which has become a phenomenon especially among young readers, has been compiled into 13 volumes to date, and the 14th volume of the series is expected to hit shelves on April 28.
This strategic move by the manga parallels the series' recent major rise. As will be remembered, a television anime adaptation for Black Channel was announced recently. The series, which already has a web anime prepared by Plott studio on YouTube that has reached millions of views, is preparing to crown its success by moving to TV screens. The transition to the digital platform will allow the series to be followed more dynamically at a weekly pace.
Weekly Coro Coro Comic is known as a free web manga site launched by Shogakukan in 2022 that hosts both new series and classic works. The move of Black Channel to this platform is considered part of the general trend in the Japanese manga industry shifting from print media to digital publishing. Starting May 17, fans will be able to follow Black's "devilishly good" videos and the dark side of human nature regularly every week from the digital environment.
